Route

The approximately 1.2 km long route has a track width of 600 mm. It runs from the Glossen station on the Mügeln – Neichen narrow-gauge railway (gauge 750 mm) to a quartzite pit .

history

The quartzite quarries were operated until the end of the Second World War under the name Didier-Werke AG, Grube Glossen and during the GDR as VEB Silikatwerk Brandis , Quarzitgrube Glossen .

After reunification, the community acquired the entire quarry area from the trust property company. It was placed under monument protection in 1994 by the Office of Monuments of the State of Saxony. The Feldbahnschauanlage Glossen eV, founded on January 9, 1994, will keep the light railway and the most important systems of the disused quartzite mine operational and will be made accessible to the public for the first time on the day of the monument in 1995. Since then, they have been publicly demonstrated on several days of driving each year. In 2003 the former social building was converted into a field railway and quarry museum.

Rail vehicles

There are 22 locomotives and 117 wagons of various types on the field railway.
