Field hymn book
A field hymn book (also military hymn book or soldier hymn book ) is a hymn book designed for religious use by soldiers .
- “Soldiers' hymns were created because an independent military church was created, and they have remained in use in ever new compositions to this day, because they are functional and make it possible to provide what they need and can expect from their church for the special situation of the users. "
Protestant hymn books for military use have been traceable since the beginning of the 18th century, Roman Catholic hymns since the end of the 19th century. Protestant and Catholic field hymns as well as compilations of Jewish military songs were part of the military equipment in World War I , Protestant and Catholic hymn books also in World War II .
