Felipe Kast (2010)

Felipe José Kast Sommerhoff (* 1977 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean politician. He was a member of the first cabinet of the Chilean President Sebastián Piñera . From 2010 onwards, Kast was the minister responsible for reconstruction, economic planning and development.

life and work

Felipe Kast is a son of the German-born government advisor Miguel Kast Rist . Felipe Kast studied economics at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC). After completing this degree, he studied Marxism and Marxist economic theory at the University of Havana in Cuba . Kast received his PhD from Harvard University in 2004. During this time, he also worked for the World Bank in Boston . After the dramatic earthquake on February 27, 2010 , Kast became the main coordinator of the National Reconstruction Program in Chile: on March 11, 2010, the new Chilean President Sebastián Piñera appointed him Minister for Reconstruction, Economic Planning and Development. Kast was the youngest member of the Piñera government. Kast is married to a Cuban woman and has three children.
