Fur (comic)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fell is a comic book series written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Ben Templesmith . It has been published by Image Comics since September 2005 .

Fell is an experiment - with 9 panels per page, he manages to tell more story on fewer pages. Each issue consists of a self-contained story and an appendix, the "Backmatter," which contains background information, responses to readers' letters, and ideas for stories which, according to Ellis, are often based on a true story. The series received 2 nominations for the Eisner Awards 2006 (Best New Series and Best Continuous Comic), but received nothing in the award.

Plot overview

The stories are about the life of the police officer Richard Fell, who was transferred to the town of Snowtown. The reasons for his transfer initially remain unknown. The cityscape of Snowtown is characterized by crime and poverty and offers a very gloomy setting. The residents are usually hostile or desperate towards the protagonist . Fell's office is hopelessly understaffed: there are only "three and a half officers" (one is handicapped) for the entire district (Fell # 1). Despite the desperate conditions, Fell is determined to fight crime in the city.

Characters

  • Richard Fell - The detective has been transferred to Snowtown for reasons he does not want to reveal (Fell # 6). His ability to analyze people is remarkable. According to Ellis, Fell's methods are based on neuro-linguistic programming , which will be discussed in more detail in later editions of the series (Fell # 1).
  • Lieutenant Beard - The lieutenant is Fell's supervisor and chief of the Snowtown Police Station. Beard can do nothing more than cynicism and hopelessness towards the problems of Snowtown , which is why he doesn't care how Fell does his job (Fell # 1).
  • Mayko - The bar owner of Vietnamese descent is one of Fell's first acquaintances in Snowtown (Fell # 1). In her bar, which Fell often visits, she tells him about Snowtown and the townspeople. As the series progresses, they become friends.
  • Bob Owlsley - The disabled cop is one of Fell's few colleagues. Owlsley would already be retired, but continues to work as a consultant due to the poor personnel situation of the police (Fell # 5).
  • Roy Bromwich - Bromswich, the last of the four Snowtown cops and Owlsley's partner, is good at the details, but less at interrogation (Fell # 5).
  • The Nun - This overweight nun, who always wears a Richard Nixon mask, appears marginally in some editions . Their meaning is so far unknown, but their behavior becomes increasingly suspicious as the story progresses. You can see her buying a pistol (Fell # 3), how a prostitute takes it for a fee (Fell # 4) and robbing a beggar (Fell # 6).
