History and description
The production and cooling systems of the “Zum Goldenen Anker” brewery were - like all Darmstadt breweries - originally in the old town . This brewery was relocated to the eastern slope of the Mathildenhöhe . Valentin Wagner owned the brewery.
The cooling cellar about 12 m below the site has been preserved . The cooling cellar consists of a series of vaulted cellar rooms up to 5 m high, which are grouped around the brick dome of the 11 m high ice dome.
Monument protection
For architectural and city-historical reasons, the rock cellar is a listed building .
