FEMNET eV (proper spelling in capital letters ; suffix: Feminist Perspectives on Politics, Economy and Society ) is a non-profit organization based in Bonn, which advocates globally for the economic, social and cultural rights of women, with a special focus on decent - existence assurance and socially fair - working conditions in the clothing industry .

history

The association was founded in 2007 under the name “Mitgedacht eV - Feminist Perspectives on Politics, Economy and Society” in Berlin; In 2010 it was renamed “FEMNET eV” and in 2012 relocated to Bonn. The chairman of the board is Gisela Burckhardt. In 2015 she received the “Anne Klein Women's Prize 2016” for her international engagement in women's politics.

Goals and way of working

Femnet fights for the global rights of women on many levels through:

  • Lobbying and political participation at local, national and international level for binding rules and laws;
  • Research and clarification of grievances as well as the support of women through local partners;
  • Press and public relations, campaigns and actions in cooperation with partners such as the campaign for clean clothing or CorA - network for corporate responsibility;
  • Educational programs for students in fashion and textile related industries as well
  • Information offers and events for consumers on global textile production as well as on fair fashion labels and shops

In the association women join together as active members who want to stand up for the global realization of women's rights. Support and participation is possible as an active member and as a sponsoring member or through donations.

Projects

Fair cut

Femnet works in numerous projects for women's rights. This includes the “FairSchnitt” educational project, which is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development . As part of the project, Femnet offers educational modules for universities of fashion-related courses, which are taught in the form of workshops by trained multipliers and accompanied by various educational materials. The project aims to sensitize students in the fashion industry to socially and environmentally compatible standards and fair production conditions in the clothing industry so that they can get involved in their implementation. The education modules “FairSchnitt. Studying for a socially just fashion industry ”can be accessed via a database.

Clean Clothes Campaign

FEMNET is also involved as a member of the Clean Clothes Campaign (Clean Clothes Campaign) for the improvement of working conditions in the global garment industry by the association brings the global production conditions through information sessions, effective media campaigns and political campaigns in the public debate.

Solidarity fund

With the solidarity fund, the association collects donations for partner organizations in Bangladesh and India, which support local women, for example through legal advice, in claiming their rights.
