history

The manufacturing company Doetsch-Grether was founded in Basel in 1899, initially as a pharmacy. 1904 followed the establishment of the Doetsch Grether & Cie AG by Richard Doetsch and Oscar Grether , who worked as a wholesaler for pharmacies and drugstores. The fenjal brand was registered in 1962 and launched in Switzerland. International sales began in 1963.

The brand's first product was the “Creme Oil Bath”, which is still available today and which was supposed to combine bathing and creaming in one product. From a business trip to the United States , managing director Hans Grether had brought his wife a nourishing oil bath , but the oil settled on the surface of the bath water; besides, it was without fragrance. Grether commissioned his laboratory to develop a bath additive in which the oil would completely combine with the water and give off a luxurious scent. In 1962, the fenjal creme oil bath developed in this way came on the market in turquoise packaging. In the following years, the international orientation of the company and brand was promoted. Fenjal brand products are now sold in 36 countries.

June 1, 2016, the fit GmbH took over from Hirschfelde the brand fenjal from the Doetsch Grether-AG. Production has also been carried out at the Hirschfelde site since 2016.

Product lines

After the brand was established, fenjal was expanded and now covers a wide range of body care products. In addition to skin care products such as creams and body lotions , this also includes deodorants , bath products and soaps . In the 1990s, the design was uniformly changed and the entire product line differentiated according to skin types .
