Ferenc Cakó [ ˈfɛrɛnʦ ˈʦɒkoː ] (born November 18, 1950 in Budapest , Hungary ) is a Hungarian animation artist, graphic artist, children's and young adult book illustrator. The main focus of his work is the modeling and sand animation of surrealistic picture motifs.

life and work

Ferenc Cakó graduated from the University of Creative Arts in 1973 and won various awards as an amateur animation filmmaker while still a student . After graduating, Cakó worked as an animation designer and director of the Pannónia film studios until 1991 . He first dealt with dolls , plasticine and scissors cutting techniques before he opted for sand as the material of his choice.

The animation all-rounder first received international attention in 1982 with his two-minute work Ad astra at the Festival d'Animation Annecy , where he won the FIPRESCI award . From then on he only realized film projects that were based on his own scripts, such as his sand animation Asche, which won a prize at the Berlinale in 1994 .

Cakó teaches 3D animation at the University of Fine Arts in Budapest . He is the leader of several workshops, including a. at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg , as well as organizer of various live sand animations all over the world.
