Distance academy
At a Distance Learning Academy is an institution of distance learning , which - in contrast to the University of Hagen , or remote colleges - no academic degrees gives and has often specialize in a particular field of education. In contrast to face-to-face academies, the training takes place at least for the most part without the participants being present. Instead, distance students acquire their knowledge through specially prepared scripts, face-to-face seminars, multimedia teaching materials and performance monitoring based on the correction of submitted assignments or exams. In addition to traditional mail and telephone contact, chat, e-mail, video conferences and other virtual communication are also increasingly being used.
Distance learning academies in Germany are subject to the Distance Learning Protection Act and are therefore obliged to have their distance learning courses checked and certified by the State Central Office for Distance Learning (ZFU) in Cologne. Currently (as of November 14, 2017) there are 64 institutes in Germany that are called Fernakademie. The participants in distance learning courses at the distance learning academies generally receive an internal academy degree, such as a diploma or certificate. In the smaller number of cases, the distance learning course prepares for public or public law and state degrees.
In contrast to distance schools, which claim to be a general educational institution and are geared towards teaching and learning and, in some cases, also conveying values, distance academies are either incompletely developed universities or other specialized academies . Even if the term "academy" is not legally protected, the commercial register courts and the advisory chambers usually (but not generally) apply very high standards for the entry of this term as part of the name in the commercial register. As a rule, care is taken to ensure that such institutions meet the demands that the academy concept arouses.
