history

The company Stock was founded in 1884 by Lionello Stock in the port city of Trieste , which belongs to Austria-Hungary, under the name Camis & Stock . In 1920 Stock bought an existing liqueur factory in Božkov near Pilsen in Bohemia and renamed it Stock Cognac Medicinal . After initially only bottling beverages delivered from Italy, he soon switched to the production of brandy and, from 1927, from Fernet.

The Czech part of the company was confiscated as Jewish property after the German occupation in 1939. Instead of a return promised in 1947, it was expropriated and converted into a state enterprise in 1948. After the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia , Stock became an independent stock corporation, in which the Italian parent company, as the previous owner, took over the majority of the shares in 1993. In 1995 the Eckes spirits group bought the Stock Group. The Czech part of Stock is now the largest producer of spirits in the country. Since the summer of 2007 the Stock Group, whose product range u. a. Keglevich Vodka and Limoncé, the US group Oaktree Capital Management .

In addition to spirits, Fernet Stock , which is also available as Fernet Stock Citrus , is the company's biggest sales driver. Interestingly, the two parts of the company in Italy and the Czech Republic sell the same products, some with different designs.

The Stock Weinbrennerei, based in Linz , was awarded the state coat of arms in 1983 . In Austria, Stock and Eckes AG worked together from 1995. This led to the merger of straw and stick, first under the name Stock & Stroh and from 1998 Stroh Austria , which later came completely into the hands of Eckes. A joint sales company, Top Spirit, was founded with Schlumberger in 1999. In 2001 Stock Austria moved its headquarters from Linz to Vienna.

In 2007, Eckes AG sold all holdings in the spirits segment in order to focus on fruit drinks (e.g. Granini) from now on. The new owner Oaktree Capital Management founded the Stock Spirits Group and bought Stock Austria GmbH in the summer. On August 13, 2008, the long-standing managing director of Stock Austria GmbH, Harold Burstein, took over 100 percent of the company as part of a management buyout. The new sole owner Burstein bought the company with the successful spirits brands STROH , Mautner , Bouchet and Charly's as well as the entire STROH production facility in Klagenfurt from the previous owners.
