The television and cinema technology, FKT for short , is the official organ of the organization as an association magazine of the television and cinema technology society ( FKTG ). She reports on current developments and innovations in the field of broadcast technology with a focus on electronic media.

The magazine is received by the members of the FKTG, but also by interested readers who want to find out more about technologies and applications in the broadcast sector as well as about the activities of society. The FKT is published by the Berlin specialist publisher Schiele & Schön .

history

The FKT was founded in 1947 and has since accompanied the Television and Cinema Technology Society (FKTG) as an official but financially independent body. Both institutions look back on a much longer history, but while the FKTG officially became the legal successor of its own company in the post-war period , the associated magazine Foto-Kino-Technik , which was founded in 1919, was discontinued. Without referring to its predecessor, a new trade journal with the same name was launched.

In 1951 this was shortened to Kino-Technik (KT) , only to be renamed again to FKT in 1953, but then as an abbreviation for Film-Kino-Technik . It was not until 1969 that the FKT got its current name: television and cinema technology .

For many years FKT was the only free trade magazine that dealt thematically with the technology of film and television . This only changed with the introduction of private television in the FRG in the 1980s.

With the now increasing number of magazines with similar content, it became necessary to establish a special focus that differentiated the FKT from the other publications. The choice fell on scientifically oriented reporting, which was at the expense of easier readability and comprehensibility, but guaranteed a high technical level.

In 2002 the magazine RTM - Rundfunktechnische Mitteilungen, previously published by the Institute for Broadcasting Technology, was integrated into the FKT. The journal was not previously available on the open market.

After FKT had been published by the Heidelberger Verlag Hüthig for 57 years, this task was taken over by the Berlin publisher Schiele & Schön in 2004.

In 2006 the magazine finally celebrated its 60th anniversary. On this occasion, a multi-part series entitled “60 years of development in film and television from the point of view of magazine articles in FKT” was started, which looks back on the topics and content of the past 60 years. Every three years, it looked back at the past. With the last article in issue 12/2007, Norbert Bolewski said goodbye after 29 years as editor-in-chief.

Content

While the content of the FKT in the early years, owing to the level of technical knowledge, still focused on the field of film technology , the picture has changed over time: Today, the spectrum of topics ranges from television and video technology to film and audio technology the new electronic media.

Readers particularly appreciate the high level of technical competence of the authors, which is explained by the fact that the FKTG provides a scientific advisory board that supports the editorial team in their work.

Reporting often focuses on topics such as digital television , broadband data transmission in the network, high-resolution television and cinema cameras and screens, cable and satellite transmission and content management systems . In addition to current specialist reports on technical developments and news from the industry, the FKT also provides information on activities and events that are relevant to members of the FKTG.
