Wissiflue fortress

The Wissiflue fortress (army designation A 2250) was an artillery plant of the Swiss Army . It is located in the Engelbergertal in a steep forest area 500 m west of Wolfenschiessen . The entrance 850  m above sea level. M. was made accessible by a military funicular .

history

Construction of the fortress began on June 15, 1942. The tunnel and concrete work were finished on September 15, 1943. At the end of 1943 two 10.5 cm cannons were provisionally installed. The final 15 cm cannons were installed in June / July 1944. The fortress was handed over to Reduit Brigade 22 . The crew consisted of the fortress company II / 16.

The Wissiflue fortress was declassified and decommissioned in 2002. In 2007 the camouflage was removed and the track and cabins of the funicular were removed. The valley station still exists.

Armament

The plant had the following guns:

  • Battery North: 2 × 15 cm cannons 42/46 L42 on lever mounts
  • Battery East: 2 × 15 cm cannons 42/46 L42 on lever mounts

The North Battery had a fire sector from Malters to Küssnacht . At the East Battery, the fire sector extended from Küssnacht to Brunnen . In 1979–1980 the technical installations of the fortress were improved. The guns also got a semi-automatic loading device. With this, the rate of fire could be increased from 2–3 to 4–6 rounds per minute.

  • 4 ammunition magazines with 2,200 artillery shells each
  • An above-ground funicular with a length of 650 m and a height difference of 315 m
  • Kitchen with 3 boilers (80, 100 and 150 liters)
  • 12,200 stored food rations
  • 3 diesel generators with 200 HP each
  • Groundwater pumping station for the water supply
  • Cistern with a capacity of 157,000 liters
