Fat eyelid

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A fatty eyelid is a transparent, immobile lid that is found in some groups of bony fish . It protects the eye and improves its streamlined shape. Only in mullets does it consist of fatty tissue, but not in other fish with fatty eyelids such as herrings , jacks and mackerel . Fatty eyelids can cover the front and back of the eyes, leaving a horizontal, elongated gap, or they can cover the entire eye except for a small opening in the middle.
