A climatic chamber is a test chamber or part of a measuring arrangement and is used to generate and maintain a defined climate , usually temperature and humidity , for the duration of the measurement or test . In contrast to this, a climatic cabinet is used to store goods at constant temperature and humidity over a longer storage period.

Climate chambers can also be used for environmental simulations .

In so-called climatic tests and in alternating climatic tests, the temperature or humidity can change periodically during the test. These tests are often used to ensure the quality of products, to simulate storage or aging processes and to prove that a product is functional in a certain climate (e.g. heat and high humidity in the tropics).

Because of their importance, many of these tests are carried out in calibrated climatic chambers.

A climatic chamber usually has a nominal volume , which indicates the volume of the test room. Further characteristic values of climatic chambers are maxima and minima of the temperature and humidity that can be generated and their maximum possible rate of change .
