Fire will fall from the sky (Original title: Fail-Safe ) is a novel by the authors Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler from 1962.

A US air force armed with atomic bombs was ordered to attack the Russian capital Moscow due to a technical defect. All attempts by the Americans and also by the Russians to shoot down the planes fail. Moscow is destroyed. In order to prevent the Russians from a massive retaliatory strike, the American president decides to have New York also destroyed by an atomic bomb.

Film adaptations

The novel was made into a film by Sidney Lumet in 1964 under the title Attack Target Moscow . In 2000, Fail Safe - The Command of No Way Out, was followed by a remake that was produced for television.
