The Feuerpatsche (also called Brandpatsche , Waldbrandpatsche or Brandklatsche ) is a simple device which u. a. the fire department for combating of corridor and forest fire starts.

It is easy to handle, easy to transport both in the vehicle and on site.

construction

The firebreaker is a stick with a wide, flat end, with which ground fires can be spread (see usage ). The wide end can be made with a leather apron or with individual strips of spring steel sheet, which are attached to a handle in a fan-shaped manner, but tightly closed like a spring broom.

use

Field and forest fires are often difficult to reach for fire engines in heavy forest or inaccessible terrain. Since the fire bat is very easy to transport and quickly ready for use, it is a very effective tool for the first attack in such situations , in order to reduce the spread of the fire on the ground.

Firemen are regularly used to bridge the time until a functional extinguishing water supply and distribution has been set up and for additional extinguishing measures. The firebreaker has lost much of its character as a means of initial attack due to the increasing use of water-carrying vehicles (e.g. tank tender or portable fire pump with water ).

The name is misleading about the use of the fire swat, because although it is said that the fire is knocked out with it, it is rather crossed out. In doing so, you move the slap over the edge of the fire, press it lightly against the ground and pull it towards you. If you hit the fire, the blast of air could ignite the embers and sparks could fly onto the not yet burning ground. It should be noted that the sole use of fire slippers cannot lead to success. A Nachlöschen by means of water is often essential.
