Fire roller (fire)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barrage is the colloquial name of advancing on a broad front fire .

Identification and designation

The name "fire roller" combines two basic meanings:

  • Fire for the fire component in the sense of a destructive fire
  • Roller for the movement and behavior components in analogy to a moving construction machine (road roller), which levels everything over a certain width.

A fire roller is an advancing source of fire that progresses in a line or in a band (but not necessarily in a straight line).

Origin and spread

Fire rollers can arise when larger areas have combustible material ready (e.g. dry forests). The individual flammable objects must be so close that the fire can be ignited independently or with the help of wind . In these circumstances, a single source of fire can trigger one or more fire rollers, which move quickly and across a broad front. If enough material is burning, it is possible that the fire front will skip areas where no combustible material exists, e.g. B. streams, small rivers or sealed areas.
