Fire Brigade Merit Medal (Braunschweig)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fire Brigade Merit Medal was donated on April 25, 1912 by Duke Johann Albrecht zu Mecklenburg as regent of the Duchy of Braunschweig .

It was intended for people who, for 40 years as members of a voluntary fire brigade in the Duchy, have rendered loyal and useful service or who have served with special distinction in a professional fire brigade (e.g. the Braunschweig fire brigade ). In addition, the award could be given to people who had made a special contribution to fire extinguishing in the state or a community.

The silver medal shows on the front in the middle two crossed hatchets and on top a fire helmet with the surrounding inscription FOR MERIT FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT . On the reverse the Brunswick ducal coat of arms towering over the crown with the half-page inscription GOTT ZUR EHR above and THE NEXT TO THE WEHR below.

The award was worn on the ribbon with six golden yellow and seven sky blue stripes on the left chest.
