The first prototype was completed in 1920, the series production of model A (L5 / 21) began in 1921. In this version the tank had two machine guns cal. 6.5 mm in the rotating turret, in the later, somewhat heavier version B (L5 / 30) had a 37mm cannon and two 8mm machine guns. A total of about 150 Fiat 3000s were produced for the Italian army , a small number of which were still in service in 1940. Other tanks were exported, including a. also to Ethiopia , where they were used against their Italian counterparts in 1935 and 1936.
