The name is mostly used in Irish and is the Latinized form of Feidelm . This name, in turn, is likely the feminine form of Feidlimid . Feidelm is the name of several women in Irish legends, such as Feidelm Noíchrothach , a daughter of Conchobhar, the king of Ulster.

Saint Fidelma and her sister, Saint Eithne, were followers of Saint Patrick in the 5th century.
