The Fields Institute is an international research center at the University of Toronto in the field of mathematics .

The institute was named after the Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields , the founder of the Fields Medal . The institute was founded in 1992 and initially resided at the University of Waterloo before relocating to Toronto in 1995 .

Mathematicians from different countries meet at the institute at regular intervals. The institute supports the exchange between mathematicians and researchers from other departments such as statistics, computer science, engineering, physics, biology, medicine, economics and economics as well as telecommunications technology and IT.

Monthly lectures are given by professors from the respective departments. There are also lectures by other researchers from private research institutes.

The institute has its own building at the University of Toronto. It has a staff of up to 66 researchers and gives direct access to the university's math library.

Research activities are published as Fields Institute Monographs (FIM). The research results are published by the American Mathematical Society .

Together with the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences in Vancouver and the CRM in Montreal, they award the CRM Fields PIMS Prize .
