This is a list of characters from the web anime Bōnen no Xam'd , the most downloaded series on PlayStation Network in the first few weeks .
main characters
Akiyuki Takehara
- 竹 原 ア キ ユ キ , Takehara Akiyuki , spoken by Atsushi Abe
Akiyuki is a common student with separated parents. At the beginning of the plot he lives with his mother and developed a close friendship with Haru and Furuichi. As a result of an attempted suicide bombing by Nazuna, he turned into a Xam'd . His whole body takes on the shape of a large, strange, white creature. So that he does not become a willless monster, he first has to learn from Nakiami how to keep his endosymbiont, known as Hiruko , under control. This makes it a target of the southern military who want to experiment on it.
Haru Nishimura
- 西村 ハ ル , Nishimura Haru , spoken by Fumiko Orikasa
Haru is a classmate and good friend of Akiyuki's with a talent for martial arts . As a good friend and with great affection for Akiyuki, she first notices him in the form of a Xam'd. Although Akiyuki disappears for a long time, she does not give up on contact with him. In her normal life, she joins the southern military with Furuichi in the hope of seeing Akiyuki again.
Nakiami
- ナ キ ア ミ , Nakiami , voiced by Yuko Sanpei
A young, at first glance unemotional and strict woman who saves Akiyuki's life at the beginning of the plot. Its mysterious origins are not clarified. She has knowledge of the Hiruko and bears the drawings of the religious order. She is a member of the crew of the international mail flight ship Zanbani and is close to the captain Ishū Benikawa like a daughter, even if both would never admit this and keep getting into arguments, since Nakiami always brings back "problems" with her trips. So she often runs against the orders of Ishū on her Beat Kayak , a small vehicle similar to a jet plane, and puts her captain in fits of anger.
The outward appearances of her and Beat Kayak share a strong resemblance to the characters and aircraft from the 1984 film Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds .

Furuichi Teraoka
- 寺 岡 フ ル イ チ , Teraoka Furuichi , spoken by Shinnosuke Tachibana
He is Akiyuki's best friend, who is secretly in love with Haru. He also trains various martial arts, but does not come close to Haru's class. In addition, Haru no longer sees Furuichi as a close friend, which the cynical and serious tall student cannot understand. So he tries to do his best in his military training to keep up with the transformed Akiyuki. He goes so far as to allow himself to be subjected to the experiments of the government, which ironically makes him a Xam'd. Ultimately, after discovering that Haru doesn't love him, he commits suicide.
Midori Nishimura
- 西村 ミ ド リ , Nishimura Midori , spoken by Ayumi Fujimura
She is Haru's younger sister and was seriously injured in a car accident that killed the mother of both sisters. Midori requires a crutch to walk and inadvertently draws southern forces' attention to Haru's relationship with Akiyuki.
Fusa Takehara
- 竹 原 フ サ , Takehara Fusa , spoken by Risa Hayamizu
She is the mother of Akiyuki and takes care of her son and her usually too long-working husband Ryūzō with strong will. With her strong personality, she plays the role of the snapped wife and only speaks to him if it concerns her son. So she does everything possible to track down her son, even if her husband doesn't give her much support. She has a very family relationship with Haru and places deep trust in her when she notices that her son is still alive after all.
Ryūzō Takehara
- 竹 原 リ ュ ウ ゾ ウ , Takehara Ryūzō , spoken by Unshō Ishizuka
He is Akiyuki's father and the husband of Fusa. As a general practitioner for the local population, elderly women and their ailments keep them busy during the day and usually do not make it home. Living apart from his wife, Ryūzō gives the impression of being neglected and cares little about order in his practice. When asked about his son, he shows evidence of a military past as a Hiruko- related researcher . Hidden from the military, he keeps the seriously wounded assassin Nazuna alive.
Crew of the Zanbani
The Zanbani is a neutral post airship on which Akiyuki is towed from Nakiami. The crew is a thrown together bunch who live like an extended family.
Ishu Benikawa
- 紅皮 伊 舟 , Benikawa Ishū , spoken by Yumi Tamai
She is the captain of the Zanbani and always shows herself in a cropped , short top over which she wears a mostly open trench coat . Within the series, Ahm describes her as a "sweet, glasses-wearing beauty with jet-black hair", although she repeatedly describes him as too fat and / or ugly. With a strong drive for independence, she repeatedly spends all of her money on weapons and indulges in one cigarette or bottle of wine after another. She cracks down on the crew and doesn't hold back from delivering blows. Nevertheless, she too has a soft core and a strong bond with her team.
Raigyo Tsunomata
- 角 股 雷 魚 , Tsunomata Raigyo , spoken by Keiji Fujiwara
Raigyo returns to the Zanbani after a two year journey. Like Akiyuki, he is a Xam'd and was once dragged from Nakiami onto the flight ship. Over time he learned to control his Hiruko better and can easily change his appearance. He traveled the world and captured the things that were important to him with his camera. In his Xam'd form, he uses the water and can wreak havoc with it.
