Filigranology

The Filigranologie (French. Filigree "Watermark"), or watermark customer dealing scientifically with watermark . It thus represents a material-oriented historical auxiliary science that researches paper evidence, e.g. B. Certificates, manuscripts.

In addition to dealing with the watermarks themselves, their production and also their forgeries, an important task of filigranology is the dating and origin research of historical documents. For this purpose, collections and catalogs are used, which are now available as specialist databases digitally and online.
