Film School is a five-piece American indie rock band from San Francisco that was formed in 1998.

style

In terms of style, Film School can be categorized as indie rock and shoegazing . In the latter style of music they are important representatives of modern times. They were influenced and inspired a. by The Cure , My Bloody Valentine, and Echo & The Bunnymen . Their sound is also similar to that of bands like Mercury Rev , The National or Grandaddy .

history

In 1998 the "band" consisted only of front man Greg Bertens who worked with various other artists, such as B. Members of the bands Fuck and Pavement , worked together. At this time the debut album Brillant Career was released in 2001 .

In 2002 Jason Ruck (keyboard), Nyles Lannon (guitar), Justin Labo (bass) and Donny Newenhouse (drums) joined the band as permanent members. In 2003, the newly formed group released the EP Alwaysnever on the Amazing Grease Records label founded by the lead singer of the band Pavement , Scott Kannberg . In 2006 the album Film School was released on the Beggars Banquet Records label .

Shortly before the production of the album Hideout in 2007, Bertens made some changes to the band's line-up. Lorelei Plotczyk played bass for Justin Labo, Dave Dupuis took over guitar for Nyles Lannon and James Smith played drums for Danny Newehouse.

In 2010 the album Fission was released . After a break of several years, the EP June was released in 2016, followed by the fifth album Bright To Death in September 2018 .
