tasks and goals

With its film funding division, MFG Baden-Württemberg is promoting the further expansion of the southwest state as a film location. Its shareholders are the state of Baden-Württemberg and Südwestrundfunk, and there has been a cooperation with ZDF / Arte since 1999. With a total annual budget of around 15 million euros, MFG supports cinema and TV productions as well as script development and the distribution of feature films, documentaries and animated films. In addition, it contributes to the preservation of the lively diversity of the local cinema landscape with numerous infrastructure measures.

As part of its multi-track funding policy, MFG Baden-Württemberg relies in particular on the animation sector and the VFX industry: With the line producer funding, it supports productions that are animated in this country or that have a high proportion of virtual filming or digital image processing. The southwest is positioning itself as a top location in Germany for VFX and animation, to which the Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart (AMCRS) initiated by the MFG also makes a significant contribution.

Another long-term focus is the promotion of young talent. The Young Documentary and “Fifty-Fifty” programs are aimed at young talents as well as the Lotte Reiniger Preis and MFG-Star awards presented by MFG.

The MFG wants to raise awareness of ecological and social sustainability with various activities - with practical tips, an online service provider directory, workshops and financial support for »green consultants« on the set. In funding applications, it must now be declared whether collective agreements or corresponding social standards are taken into account in the production of the film.
