The ruins of Pinaka Castle ( photographed by Gertrude Bell in 1909 ).

Finik is a ruin site in eastern Turkey . It is located on the north bank of the Tigris , about 20 km northeast of Cizre in the province of Şırnak . In ancient times it was called Pinaka ( Strabon , Geographica 11, 747) or Phaenicha ( Ammianus Marcellinus ) and was part of the Gordiene . The village of Damlarca, in the immediate vicinity of the ruins, was still called Finikirevi in 1928. The site consists of an outer and an inner castle. The inner castle is higher and was built into the mountainous terrain. In addition to the castle there are remains of other buildings and cave dwellings carved into the rock. The entire facility is not protected. Nevertheless, no illegal excavations are known.

Finik was one of the centers of the principality of Botan .
