Fiorenza Cossotto
Fiorenza Cossotto (born April 22, 1935 in Crescentino near Vercelli , Italy ) is an Italian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).
Life
Cossotto studied at the Turin Conservatory . In 1955 she was accepted into the La Scala studio in Milan and began her international career from here, especially as Azucena, Santuzza, Amneris, Lady Macbeth, Adalgisa and Carmen. As Leonore in La favorita , she had her artistic breakthrough in 1962. Fiorenza Cossotto appeared often alongside Maria Callas (including in Norma ) and, due to her vocal power and stage presence, made guest appearances in the Arena di Verona for over two decades . She was married to the Italian bassist Ivo Vinco .
In addition, numerous recordings were made, most of which are now also available on CD.
She was one of the most popular and highest paid singers in the world from the late 1950s to the 1980s.
