FirstClass is groupware and communication software , consisting of a server and clients, both of which are available for several operating systems. FirstClass works with its own network protocol . You can also dial into extended FirstClass servers via a web browser and mobile devices (e.g. smartphones).

history

FirstClass was originally developed within the Canadian company SoftArc by three former employees of Bell Northern Research. The first version was completed in 1989. FirstClass was used by virtually all bulletin board systems on Mac OS in the early 1990s . This era ended with the triumph of the Internet . In 1997, SoftArc was taken over by a company in Vancouver and from then on operated under the name Centrinity. In September 2002 Centrinity was bought by the Canadian company Open Text . Since then, the software has been further developed by the FirstClass department under the umbrella of Open Text.
