The FirstMerit Tower , also known as the First National Bank Building, First Central Trust Building, or other names, is a skyscraper in Akron , Ohio and has been the tallest building in the city since its completion.
The building was designed in the Art Deco architectural style corresponding to the period . 27 floors extend over almost 101 meters, and it also has two basement floors. Built using a steel frame, the facade was clad with terra cotta. It is the center and a landmark of Akron City these days. The main tenant is the US bank FirstMerit, which is also the namesake. The building was built on the former site of the Hamilton Building. There is an antenna about 36 meters high on the roof. However, this does not count towards the architectural height. It is used exclusively for office purposes.
At the turn of the millennium, there were renovation investments amounting to 2.5 million US dollars . This mainly included the renewal of facade building materials such as limestone and sandstone. Another complete renovation followed in 2007. In the course of this renovation, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places .
