The First National Bank Alaska was in 1922 by Winfield Ervin, Sr. as First National Bank of Anchorage founded. The first branch was in Anchorage , Alaska .

In 1941 the bank was bought by Warren N. Cuddy, who also took over the position of the board of directors. Cuddy died in 1951, and his son, DH Cuddy, took over his position, which he still holds today.

In 1960, the bank opened the first drive-through counter in Alaska. The current name, First National Bank Alaska, wasn't introduced until September 2001. The similarly named Bank National Bank of Alaska was previously taken over by Wells Fargo in 2000 .

First National Bank Alaska is the only bank in Alaska that has received the 5-star rating from Bauer Financial Reports 73 times in a row . The bank also received the "Exceptional Performance Bank" award.

In the 2006 annual report, assets were given as $ 2.27 billion. In the same year the bank opened its 26th branch.
