After the harsh winter of 2013, the ridge calf was recognizable in mid-May.

The first calf (Firstkuh) is a by snow melt arising snow picture in the Rhine Valley from about seeing mountains of Dornbirn First , more precisely in the west slope of Mörzelspitze .

When the snow melts in spring, the gullies and hollows of the First mountain range keep a few snowfields longer. In the interplay with the deserted slopes, a picture emerges that is called Firstkalb in Dornbirn . Depending on the severity of winter and the extent of the snowfall, the time at which the ridge calf can be recognized varies.

In Dornbirn, the dead calf is an indication of late spring and the date when you can walk again without shoes (barefoot) .
