Jonathan Harrington

Jonathan Harrington (* 1958 ) is a British-born professor of phonetics at the Institute for Phonetics and Speech Processing at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Harrington studied Modern & Medieval Languages and Linguistics at Downing College , Cambridge , where he received his PhD in Phonetics in 1986. After various positions, u. a. at the University of Edinburgh and Macquarie University in Sydney , he became a professor at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

In 2006 he took over the chair from Hans Günther Tillmann at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . He was best known for his research on sound change , which he examined using the example of Queen Elizabeth II's Christmas speeches.
