Fjäderholmarna
The Fjäderholmarna are a small group of islands in the Stockholm archipelago , they belong to the municipality of Lidingö and can be reached in a twenty-minute boat ride from central Stockholm.
The archipelago consists of four islands: Stora Fjäderholmen , Ängsholmen , Libertas and Rövarns holme (robber island) or Lillholmen . The name was mentioned in a purchase document as early as 1381, when it was called Fierdholmarna , which roughly means "islands in the fjord". Here, as on many archipelago islands, home-made alcoholic beverages were served for fishermen on their way to Stockholm and for Stockholmers who wanted to buy a cheap drop. Free boats were used and around 1870 around 1.5 million cans of brandy were sold per year (1 can = 2.6 liters). In the end, there was a real "fuel war". From 1940 to 1985 the islands were a restricted military area and were not allowed to be entered by unauthorized persons.
Today it is more peaceful there, the islands are still a popular destination because they can be easily reached by tourist boats. On Stora Fjäderholmen , the main island, there are various handicraft shops, a museum, a theater and several restaurants. The listed lighthouse Libertus fyr is located on Libertas. Since 1995 Fjäderholmarna has been the easternmost outpost of the world's first national city park, Ekoparken .
