Flanders Moss
Flanders Moss is a raised bog area between Thornhill in the north and Kippen in the south in the Carse of Stirling in central Scotland .
history
While previously it was only passable on boardwalks , during the 18th century the drainage of the land was greatly encouraged by the lawyer and historian Henry Home Kames , but a substantial part survived this development.
Flanders Moss is the largest raised bog in the United Kingdom that has remained in a largely natural state . Scottish Natural Heritage acquired rights to the site in 1995 and it was designated a National Nature Reserve .
