Flavius Vibianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flavius Vibianus (his prenomen is not known; however, his name may have been Caelius Vibianus or Gaius Aelius Vibianus ) was a member of the Roman knighthood ( Eques ) living in the 3rd century AD .

A dedicatory inscription on an altar, which was found at the Aballava castle and which is dated to 253/255, shows that Vibianus was the tribune of a cohort . According to John Spaul , he was the tribune of the Cohors I Augusta Nerviana Germanorum , who at the time was stationed in the province of Britannia . The inscription also shows that he was also the Praepositus of the Numerus Maurorum Aurelianorum Valeriani Gallieni .
