Marcus Reuter

Marcus Reuter (born October 19, 1966 in Gießen ) is a German provincial Roman archaeologist and director of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier .

Life

Marcus Reuter studied at the University of Freiburg and received his doctorate in 1996 under Hans Ulrich Nuber with the subject of Studies on the Numbers of the Roman Army in the Middle Empire . After working in the back office of the State Office for Monument Preservation in Baden-Württemberg , he headed scientific excavations for the Hanau History Association in 2000/01 . Here, through the discovery of two small Roman forts near Hanau - Mittelbuchen , he succeeded in proving an earlier line of the Wetterau Limes in the late Flavian period.

He then received a research grant from the German Research Foundation ( The Upper Germanic-Raetian Limes region from the accession of Philip Arab to the end of the Tetrarchy 244–305 AD ) at the University of Freiburg. From 2003 to 2005 he was a scientific advisor at the major state exhibition in Baden-Württemberg “Imperium Romanum. Rome's provinces on the Neckar, Rhine and Danube ”in Stuttgart . Since April 2005 Reuter has been a scientific advisor at the LVR-RömerMuseum Xanten , since July 2010 provisional, since July 2011 its regular director as successor to Hans-Joachim Schalles . On July 1st, 2012 he became director of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum Trier .
