Hans Ulrich Nuber

Hans Ulrich Nuber (born November 13, 1940 in Schwerin ; † July 28, 2014 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German provincial Roman archaeologist .

Hans Ulrich Nuber grew up in Schwäbisch Gmünd . After graduating from a high school and military service, he began at the University of Frankfurt First Business Administration to study, but soon moved to the subjects of the Roman Provinces Archeology, Ancient History, Classical Archeology and Prehistory and Early History. In 1968 he received his doctorate with a thesis on Roman metal vessels under Aladár Radnóti . He then worked there as a research assistant before being appointed professor in 1972. From 1978 to 2009 he was Professor of Provincial Roman Archeology at the University of Freiburg .

Nuber was the editor of several scientific series, member of the German Archaeological Institute , the Commission for Historical Regional Studies in Baden-Württemberg , the Commission for Provincial Roman Research in Switzerland, the Archaeological Commission in Baden-Württemberg and the research association "Collegium Beatus Rhenanus". He was a founding member of the German Limes Commission and from 2001 to 2014 chairman of the Alemannic Institute . For his services he received the gold medal of merit of the city of Veszprém in 1994 , the university medal of the University of Freiburg in 1995 and in 2005 on the occasion of his 65th birthday the gold medal of merit of the community of Sontheim an der Brenz .

Hans Ulrich Nuber died on July 28, 2014 as a result of a brief, serious illness.
