Aladár Radnóti
Aladár Radnóti (born June 13, 1913 in Budapest , † December 8, 1972 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Hungarian provincial Roman archaeologist .
Aladár Radnóti studied at the University of Budapest with Andreas Alföldi and received his doctorate in 1936. He then received a scholarship at the Hungarian Institute in Rome and was Alföldi's assistant. From 1938 he worked at the Hungarian National Museum , most recently as head of the soil monument research department. He led u. a. Excavations in Brigetio , Gerulata , Matrica and Porolissum . In 1946 he received his habilitation at the University of Budapest. In 1947 he married the archaeologist and numismatist Maria Alföldi . From 1950 the Stalinist university policy prevented any further teaching activity for Radnóti. In 1957, after the defeated Hungarian uprising, he and his wife fled Hungary via Vienna to Bavaria. Here he worked at the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , especially in Regensburg . Since September 1, 1959, he has been the curator of the archaeological department of the Maximilian Museum in Augsburg . In 1962 Radnóti became associate professor for ancient numismatics , Latin epigraphy and Roman provincial archeology at the University of Frankfurt . He died of a heart attack in 1972.
His main research interests were the Roman bronzes and toreutics as well as the Roman administrative and military history.
