The foster son of Domnall mac Aeda, the king of Ulster Congal Claen, helped him to the dignity of the High King of Ireland . However, the rich reward expected for this does not materialize. At the enthronement ceremony in Domnall's ruler's seat Dún na nGéd ("Castle of the Geese"), there is a dispute between the two. Congal sets up an army and wins some foreign princes as helpers. The battle of Mag Ráth ( Cath Maige Rátha ) takes place in 637 and Congal falls.

The stories Cath Maige Rátha and Buile Suibne (" Suibne's madness") are follow-up texts by Fled Dúin na nGéd .
