The eight tile pictures from the pedestrian tunnel of Alexanderplatz in Berlin were produced by the Meissen porcelain factory and show historical views of the square. The listed tile pictures have been in the collection of the Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation since October 2006 .

history

The images in Camaieu painting sepia executed form a cycle of presentation of Alexanderplatz from 1730 to 1968. The implementation is based on designs of artist John Boehland , Gerhardt Ullrich , Friedrich Winkler-Tannenberg , Ludwig Hartwig , Tommi Parzinger , Ernst Böhm and Bruno Bernitz . The first six pictures were created in 1930 in the Königliche Porzellanmanufaktur Berlin (KPM) and were used to decorate the newly built eastern porch of the Alexanderplatz underground station .

The pictures with representations from the period 1730 to 1930 have been copied from the original fragments of the KPM pictures. At the time, this was supplied by the preservation department, the client was VEB Tiefbau Berlin . After the end of the order, these fragments were returned to him. There was a barrack there for particularly sensitive art objects. It can be assumed that the original tile pictures were stored there. After the reunification, the location in Berlin-Heinersdorf was closed and every trace is lost. Bruno Bernitz also designed the last two pictures as an extension of the cycle. When the tunnel was closed in 2006, the series of images was salvaged by the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment and handed over to the Stadtmuseum Berlin Foundation.

The preparation of the exhibitionability of the tile pictures by applying them to new carrier plates and framing was sponsored by Porzellanikon Selb in 2010 . In the exhibition From a royal dream to mass-produced goods , on the occasion of the 300th anniversary of porcelain in Europe, the porcelain museum in Selb showed all tile images together for the first time in the same year.
