Florodora is an English musical in two acts that premiered in London's West End in 1899 . The libretto was written by Jimmy Davis (1853-1907) under the pseudonym Owen Hall . The music is by Leslie Stuart (1863–1928), with Paul Rubens (1870–1917) having composed some songs.

The musical comedy was performed a total of 455 times in London from November 1899 to March 1901. In the 1900 season it started at the Casino Theater on New York's Broadway , there with even greater success and 552 performances. It is considered to be one of the most successful and formative musical games in the English-speaking world at the turn of the century.

Tell Me Pretty Maiden

The double sextet with the song Tell Me Pretty Maiden and the dancing Florodora Girls were particularly famous and popular .

action

The action takes place on a tiny Filipino island called Florodora, which is home to a perfume factory. Here, the popular Florodora perfume is made from the flowers of the Florodora flower. Both the island and the factory are owned by the unscrupulous American businessman Cyrus W. Gilfain, who stole both from Dolore's family. Her endeavor now is to preserve her legitimate legacy and to marry Gilfain's executive director, Lord Frank Abercoed.

filming

In 1930 it became the model for a feature film, The Florodora Girl , in which Marion Davies (1897–1961) played the title role.
