Flower piano
Flower Piano is a music festival that has been held in the San Francisco Botanical Gardens since 2015 . At the event twelve pianos for twelve days in the in at various points Gate Golden Park located San Francisco Botanical Garden set up and visitors to the free music invited. Professional artists play the instruments on weekends or on selected evenings. The event attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually.
history
In 2013, the musician, painter and sculptor Mauro ff ortissimo (" ff ortissimo" is a stage name) placed a used piano on the rocky cliffs near the Californian city of Half Moon Bay, south of San Francisco on the Pacific coast . Under the title “Sunset Piano” he played the instrument at sunset and in this way attracted an audience that was growing every day. After he was banned from the activity by the authorities, he set the piano on fire as part of a final performance.
A year later, the mayor of San Francisco invited ff ortissimo and already in 2013 as a project partner the boarded Dean Mermell a set up pianos at various points of the city. According to the official Sunset Piano website, one of the purposes of the project was to answer the question "How does music played outdoors influence human behavior in urban areas?"
The first Flower Piano event finally took place in 2015 as part of the celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the San Francisco Botanical Gardens . Brendan Lange, then Director of Visitor Experience and Marketing, said, “We wanted to pick the nicest seats and place [the pianos] in as many different gardens as possible. In this way, visitors will go on a fantastic journey if they decide to discover all twelve pianos. "
The Golden Gate Park music festival, which is free for residents of San Francisco, has been held annually in July since then. According to the organizers, it attracted more than 40,000 visitors in 2016 alone.
