The Kamembe Airport ( IATA : KME, ICAO : HRZA) is a small national airport near the town of Cyangugu in western Rwanda . The airport is located in the Kamemba district , the economic center of the city. The airport is served by the national airline Rwandair Express .
During the colonial days it served as an airport for the neighboring city of Bukavu , as both Rwanda and the Congo were under Belgian rule and there was no de facto border.
