The Fondazione FS Italiane is a foundation run by companies in the FS Group, the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane , Trenitalia and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). The aim is to preserve and present the historical and technical legacy of the FS Group and its predecessor organizations. The seat of the foundation is in Rome .
history
The foundation was established on March 6, 2013 by the above-mentioned companies in the FS Group.
Cultural heritage
The foundation has around two hundred operational historic railway vehicles, most of which were built in the first half of the twentieth century, as well as more than fifty historical, no longer functional vehicles, which are kept in the National Railway Museum in Pietrarsa .

The foundation runs the National Railway Museum in Pietrarsa and runs special trips on historical and tourist trains.
The foundation also maintains an extensive library on railway history and an archive. These include
- the historical archive "Servizio Lavori e Costruzioni" (Construction and Construction Service), which was created on the occasion of the nationalization of the railway in Italy in 1908/1909 and was responsible for the construction, maintenance and operation of the railway infrastructure,
- the plan archive of the Lokomotiv- und Wagdienst, which contains 260,000 technical drawings of historical locomotives and vehicles, over 500,000 documents on vehicles in operation and 10,000 photographs, mainly glass plates from the early 20th century,
- the foundation's audiovisual center has around 350,000 analog photos, 500,000 digital recordings, 3,000 films, over 3,000 cassettes and 3 terabytes of high-resolution videos.
