Fontographer is an outline font editing program. It is comparable to Fontlab and Fontforge and enables you to design and edit your own fonts in PostScript , TrueType and various other formats, including OpenType since the current version 5 .
The program was originally developed in 1985 by Altsys (later merged with Macromedia ), but has not been further developed by Macromedia since 1997. Nevertheless, it was still used by a relatively large number of type designers.
In May 2005, Fontographer was acquired by Fontlab. In November, Fontographer 4.7, the first version compatible with Mac OS X, appeared. The Windows version was not updated and remained at version 4.1.5. In June 2010, version 5 was released for Mac OS X and Windows with significant functional enhancements to the predecessor.
