Forêt classée de Gonsé
The Forêt classée de Gonsé is a nature reserve in the province of Oubritenga in central Burkina Faso .

The Forêt classée de Gonsé is located about 25 km east of Ouagadougou on the Massili River .
History and status
The protected area has been in the past during a GTZ divided -Aufforstungsprojektes in parcels entwaldet to a large extent and with alien species (u. A. Gmelina arborea and various Eucalyptus spp.) Were replanted. The project was carried out against the resistance of the local residents who were not interested in the exotic species.
Today natural spontaneous vegetation is forming again in most areas. The alien species could not establish themselves in the area, but are still noticeably represented in the forest. In places, the plantings caused massive erosion damage. The University of Ouagadougou and the Center National de Semences Forestières are now operating experimental plantings with autochthonous species (including Ziziphus spp.) In Gonsé. Among other things, Sahelian species are examined for their planting potential in the Northern Sudan Zone . There are guided tours for tourists and interested professionals for a fee. The contact point is the office of the forest authority in Gonsé, east of the protected area on the main road.
Flora and vegetation
The predominant vegetation is shrub and tree savannahs with combretaceae , and there are river meadows of the Massili dominated by Mitragyna inermis . In places, areas with no vegetation can be observed, on which originally mostly eucalyptus was afforested. This could not offer enough resistance to the water erosion. Sclerocarya birrea , some of which have also been planted, is found on deeper, skeletal soils . In contrast to most of the other species that have been reforested in the past, this one also occurs naturally in the area and is often used.
