The Ford's Theater is a theater in Washington, DC It has existed since the 1860s. Abraham Lincoln was fatally wounded in an assassination attempt by John Wilkes Booth on the evening of April 14, 1865 .
In 1867 it was taken over by the US Army and used as an archive for medical records from the Civil War . In the 1960s, it was restored to its 1865 appearance and reopened in 1968.
The theater was entered on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966, along with the neighboring Petersen House , where Lincoln died of his fatal injuries . On 23 June 1970, both buildings were together under the name Ford's Theater National Historic Site of National Historic Site explained.
