Forum on Demographic Change

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Demographic Change Forum is an initiative of Federal President Köhler in cooperation with the Bertelsmann Foundation .

According to the presentation of the forum, the aim is to create awareness of the problem and concrete proposals for action. The problem of obsolescence is one of the greatest challenges for Germany, but according to surveys, the population does not fully recognize this.

But there are also voices who assess the consequences of demographic change significantly differently and point to the interests of the conclusions. The aim is to create the impression that, despite high unemployment, we are already suffering from demographic problems, according to which too many pensioners face a small number of people of working age.

On December 6, 2005 , the first conference took place in the Berlin representation of the state of Baden-Württemberg, at which Federal President Horst Köhler gave the opening speech. It was the start of a series of conferences that will be attended by leading representatives from government and society.
