Fotzenpoidl at the plague column on the Graben in Vienna

Fotzenpoidl was a colloquial name for Emperor Leopold I , referring to his protruding lower lip.

In particular, it means the sculpture of the emperor on the Vienna plague column on the Graben . Allegedly Leopold I is depicted on the column with an exaggerated misshapen mouth area because he did not want to pay the builder of the Vienna plague column the agreed wages. The column was commissioned in 1679. After a wooden column was first built, the current column was built by 1694.
