Fou ( Chinese 缶 , pinyin fǒu ) is an amphora-shaped ancient Chinese percussion instrument mentioned in the Book of Songs . The vessel used as a gong was made of fired clay . In the ancient Chinese musical instrument category of Bayin ("Eight Sounds"), it belongs to the tone category. The instrument is also known in Korea.
